- Private label — wholesale goods sold under the business's own local brand
- Candle, soap and skincare makers
- Handmade bags, jewelry and leather goods
- Hot sauce, salsa, baked goods and other packaged food under its own brand
- Coffee roasters
- Artists selling their own original work
What doesn’t
These are good businesses and they keep their listing and their category. They just aren’t what this badge marks.
- Resale under someone else's brandVintage sellers and boutiques stocking other companies' labels. The brand on the product is someone else's, and the customer is buying that brand. Still the largest group we turn down — but buying wholesale is not itself disqualifying, and goods sold under the business's own brand qualify.
- ServicesRepair, salons, consulting, cleaning — however local, and however good. There are no goods carrying their brand, only work done for a customer.
- Custom work on a customer's designA print shop putting someone else's logo on a shirt is providing a service. If the same shop also sells its own designed line, that line qualifies and they can apply on that basis.
- Restaurants and food serviceA restaurant serving meals is Food & Dining. A restaurant selling its own bottled sauce on shelves is a brand for that product.
